PROJECT PETER
Our Story
Impetus – Following a 2010 failed business venture, I lost everything. With the little savings left after a year of struggle, I headed to Indonesia, learnt the language [10 hours a day], established new networks, rebuilt and wanted to pay back to God for what he had given.
Our beginning
In 2011, I then started a small project by financing education for undergraduates and post graduate studies. It was self-funded [and continues to be] and the pay-back to society was noble with a simple belief that God had saved me and so small acts of compassion, acts of kindness can transform lives starting with education for those in need. The project started small with 6 beneficiaries, with no attached terms and conditions.
How we grew
To continue to self-fund the Project in 2022, I was fortunate to have been accepted as an Associate Lecturer. I conducted lectures for undergraduates in the area of Cybercrime. I was also given the opportunity to be Course Leader in time to come, assignment and examination marker and also invigilator. The salaries then went into partially funding the education of those in need. A new initiative was then born where job opportunities were offered to those in need. The job opportunities were in-house and short-termed; 3 months as a norm; 6 months at maximum. The aim was to provide an opportunity for those in need to earn a salary while doing meaningful work and more importantly provide a safe haven for introspection and growth.
By 2023, opportunities for lecturing increased. I was then conducting lectures not only in Cybercrime but in Fintech as well. I was also given an opportunity to develop the university course module for undergraduates for the Fintech Module. As such, I was then able to scale up in terms of funding education [short-term], providing employment [short-term] and to initiate a new contribution towards recovery and/or rehabilitation. That’s when the contributions to Children’s Cancer Foundation started in late 2023.
By 2024, I was clearer of the mission. ‘Educating’ [through lecturing opportunities] was clearly the enabler to this new mission, guided by prayers. Education [in terms of short-term funding, Employment [short-termed] was what I could execute when the enabler was in place. It was then that I initiated an effort to Engage those in need during their time of employment. Engagement was achieved through activities like Art Therapy, Flight Simulator Therapy, even simple daily things like setting and maintaining an aquarium. In one case, Project Work was initiated to remodel the whole shop which started from scratch and completed by one single person who walked through these doors. As part of the Project work, the late teen was exposed to daily compliments, rejections, guidance to face the failures and move forward and most importantly to complete what was started; to stand up with each fall and walk forward. In another engagement effort, I had late teens walking in with certain issues. They were guided to write positive quotes on cards [white name-cards] daily. Through this effort a positive change was observed in their mindsets as positive phrases were written daily and the positivity reinforced as the days went by. The teens were told that the cards would be sold in due time. Part 2 of this initiate was for a set of other teens who took these plain white cards with positive quotes and deciphered each and then custom designed them with colour pencils. Like the first group, the second benefited from positive reinforcements and therapy.
By early 2024, the ‘Educating’ element remained the enabler to execute E3 [education, employment and engagement] as well as R2 [rehabilitation and recovery] and it was then that the Mission PETER became crystal clear.
Each letter of “PETER” reflects our guiding philosophy:
P – Project: A purposeful journey — not just a program, but a mission to create opportunities for transformation.
E – Educate: Every lecture I give helps fund education, employment and meaningful engagement. I believe that knowledge heals and empowers.
T – To: Every action we take is to move someone closer to stability, dignity, and hope.
E – Educate, Employ, and Engage: Income from teaching is channelled into education and temporary employment for those in need. We engage participants through art, flight simulator therapy, craftwork, and project-based activities.
R – Rehabilitation or Recovery: We support financial recovery (donations to causes like children’s cancer societies) and emotional recovery (therapy-lite sessions and caretaker support programs).
Significance
In coining this initiate, PETER, the Mission became crystal clear when juxtaposed with the Bible. It was then that I came to the realisation that all the holes of the cheese were lining up, and it was clearly God’s hand in shaping this Mission.
Who is PETER in the Bible?
Peter (originally named Simon) was one of Jesus Christ’s twelve disciples — and one of the most prominent.
Name meaning: Jesus gave him the name Peter, which comes from the Greek Petros, meaning “rock.”
Occupation: Before following Jesus, Peter was a fisherman.
Family: He had a brother named Andrew, who was also one of Jesus’ disciples.
Key Events Involving Peter
Called by Jesus:
Jesus invited Peter and his brother to follow Him, saying,“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)
Walked on Water:
Peter famously walked on water toward Jesus — but began to sink when he lost faith (Matthew 14:22–33).
Peter’s Confession of Faith:
He declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)Jesus replied, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.”
Denied Jesus Three Times:
Before the crucifixion, Peter denied knowing Jesus three times (Luke 22:54–62).Afterward, he wept bitterly — showing remorse and humanity.
Leader in the Early Church:
After Jesus’ resurrection, Peter became one of the founding leaders of the Christian church, boldly preaching and performing miracles (Acts 2 onwards).
What Peter Represents
Faith and Human Weakness
The mix of strong belief and human frailty
Peter had deep faith but also moments of fear and doubt — showing that even faithful people can stumble.
Transformation and Forgiveness
Change through grace
After denying Jesus, Peter was forgiven and became a powerful leader — symbolizing redemption and renewal.
The Church’s Foundation
Stability and leadership
Jesus’ words “on this rock I will build my church” make Peter a symbol of spiritual foundation and authority.
Courage in Faith
Strength to stand up for belief
Peter eventually died for his faith, representing commitment and bravery in following truth.
Our Mission
To empower individuals in need through education, engagement, and emotional recovery, reminding every participant that no matter their struggle — You Are Not Alone.
Positive Impact on Beneficiaries
The Mission PETER initiative has touched many lives in tangible and transformative ways. Those who benefited experienced not only practical help but also emotional and spiritual renewal.
Access to Education
Many undergraduates and postgraduates who lacked financial means were able to continue their studies.
The educational support gave them a sense of hope, dignity, and purpose — reminding them that someone believed in their potential.
Beneficiaries often expressed that this support was a “second chance” at life, empowering them to break cycles of hardship and create better futures for themselves and their families.
Employment Opportunities
Short-term job placements gave individuals meaningful work experience and an income during difficult periods.
These roles helped beneficiaries rebuild self-confidence and develop work discipline, preparing them for future long-term employment.
The work itself — whether administrative, creative, or community-focused — allowed participants to feel valued and productive, restoring their sense of purpose.
Emotional and Mental Recovery (Engagement Activities)
Through engagement programs such as Art Therapy, Flight Simulator Therapy, aquarium care, and craft projects, participants found calm, self-expression, and healing.
The daily positive-quote card activity helped youth shift from negative self-talk to a mindset of optimism and self-worth.
Participants reported greater emotional balance, improved confidence, and a newfound belief that change was possible.
Rehabilitation and Community Support
Contributions to causes like the Children’s Cancer Foundation extended compassion beyond the immediate circle — reminding both donors and participants that giving heals both the giver and the receiver.
The initiative fostered a community spirit of shared kindness and faith in action, proving that small, consistent acts of good can ripple outward to transform many lives.
Spiritual and Personal Growth
The Mission helped participants understand that recovery is not only financial but also emotional and spiritual.
Many discovered renewed faith and a sense of being “not alone” — aligning with the project’s mission message that God’s grace works through ordinary acts of love.
In the Words of Many Beneficiaries
“I found hope again.”
“This gave me the confidence to try.”
“Someone believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
“It wasn’t just help — it was healing.”
In Essence
The positive impact of Mission PETER lies not only in the education funded or jobs provided, but in the hearts transformed. Each act — teaching, employing, engaging — builds a bridge from despair to dignity, from isolation to inclusion, and from survival to self-belief.
